DECOUPELED CRANKSHAFT PULLEY + DIAMOND WASHER FOR MORE RELIABILITY

09.03.2009

In the automobile industry the trend is towards more compact, simpler and lighter construction, however the products must remain reliable. Maximum power density, i.e. the transmission of ever larger forces and moments in more compact, lighter constructions pose a challenge for the technical designers. The single bolt design offers limited friction in a high force and torque area

which could lead to the crankshaft pulley slipping. A tightened crankshaft screw, with no washer cannot prevent slippage through the vibration damper. The timing belt pulley and the crankshaft deflect as a consequence.

The introduction of a nickle diamond coated washer onto the shaft increases the friction between the components, prevents slippage from occuring and improves durability.

As described in the Corteco fitting instruction 21652976 the diamond disk must be replaced with every new pulley fitted.
