02.10.2015 The ‘Start-Stop Ready’ Mark of Distinction

The ‘Start-Stop Ready’ sticker that now features prominently on all Start-Stop Pulleys in the Corteco range (1 Sept 2015) is the OE Quality ‘stamp of approval’ that all motor factors and installers will be delighted to see.

Start-stop systems help to reduce CO2 emissions and save fuel by switching off the engine when the car is idling in heavy traffic, or waiting at traffic lights, for example. Start-stop pulleys are designed to cope with variations in speed and to reduce noise by damping the severe level of vibrations generated by between 500,000 and 700,000 starts in their operational lifetime. That’s up to ten times as many more as a standard pulley on an engine without a start-stop system.

Demand for replacements is set to rise.

More than half of cars currently being produced are equipped with start-stop systems - all of the engines in the latest BMW range have them for instance - and the OE trend is upward. By 2022, it is expected that start-stop systems will be a standard fit on more than 82% of the vehicles sold in Western Europe.

The ‘Start-Stop Ready’ stickers on Corteco branded boxes provide instant visual confirmation that the pulleys inside are:

  • Compatible with start-stop systems
  • OE quality
  • Built to resist the associated hostile operating environments

As the aftermarket distribution arm of Freudenberg Group, Corteco is able to draw on the wealth of design and development resources available from a company renowned as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of components for OE. For example, the damping materials are made from a newly developed high temperature elastomer with Nano-EPDM technology, mounted using an optimised bonding process designed specifically in order to fix metal and rubber parts.

Consequently, when motor factors and installers see the Corteco ‘Start-Stop Ready’ sticker, they will enjoy the peace of mind that every professional has the right to expect. They can select with confidence, safe in the knowledge that the pulleys inside are designed to endure the harsh operating conditions that exist inside start-stop systems and that they will perform as well as the OE product they have been built to replace.

When removing and installing pulleys, it is essential that appropriate tools are used. Procedures must be carried out according to the OE specifications as detailed in our product fitting instructions. Find out more
